Working with curator and presenter, Kathleen Soriano and the team at Compton Verney, Design Penguin created the brand, interpretation and participation area for this exhibition that explored artworks entered for SkyArts Portrait Artist of the Year.
The brand had to be distinctly different from the Sky style and work with the exhibition colour palate. A bold title was developed, and a modern, sans-serif font used throughout to give the exhibition a contemporary feel. Object labels were printed on white foamex so that they stood out and were easy to read. Large print guides for all interpretation were produced and handheld boards were created for a huge montage wall of portraits that meant visitors could easily find the names of the artists on display. Visitors were invited to pin up portraits on an activity board outside the exhibition which we designed to cover an entire wall so it was accessible to little and long legs alike.
