What goes up must come down….a prominent feature of the Birmingham skyline for over 100 years, the Windsor Street Gasholders and the people who worked at the plants were commemorated in a display at the Thinktank in Birmingham, which Design Penguin was asked to bring to life through graphics.
Taking inspiration from a piece of the dismantled gasholder frame sitting at the centre of the display and its colours, we designed six interpretation panels to help the visualise some of the statics involved of the once immense structure. We added graphics that drew on the local stories and created a motif for the glass panels surrounding the display to highlight the intricacies of the vast metal construction.
